I’ve been in enough boardrooms to know what it looks like when someone starts to emotionally check out of the conversation the moment a Gen Z marketing trend gets mentioned.
Maybe it’s the eye twitch.
Maybe it’s the deep inhale through the nose.
Maybe it’s the passive-aggressive chuckle that says, “TikTok isn’t a strategy.”
And they’re right. TikTok isn’t a strategy. Neither is shoving a Gen Z intern into the CMO’s chair because they know how to go viral.
But neither is ignoring the tectonic shift in language, value systems, and attention spans that’s already underway.
The truth is:

And here’s the rub: they’re not wrong.
They’ve grown up in a reality where systems have failed them repeatedly. From recessions to student loans to the climate crisis, they've watched institutions crumble while influencers built empires in bedrooms. So yes, their trust looks different. And yes, their loyalty needs to be earned in new ways.
But if you dismiss them?
You’re not just missing a demographic.
You’re missing the future architects of your brand’s cultural relevance.
Legacy is Not Fragile
Let’s be clear: honoring Gen Z’s ideals doesn’t mean abandoning your principles.
Legacy isn’t fragile.
It doesn’t crack under scrutiny.
It evolves.
And if you’ve built something with real bones—something rooted in service, ethics, and depth—it will survive the remix. But you must let it be remixed.
